Zoids: Mokushiroku (ゾイド 黙示録), translated as "Zoids: Apocalypse," is a strategy game developed and published by Tomy Corporation. Released exclusively in Japan on December 21, 1990, for the Famicom (the Japanese version of the Nintendo Entertainment System), the game is based on the Zoids franchise, which features mechanical models resembling giant robotic animals.
In Zoids: Mokushiroku, players can choose between two factions: the Helic Republic or the Guylos Empire. The game offers both turn-based and real-time strategy modes, allowing players to select their preferred style of gameplay. During standard play, the game operates as a strategy simulation where players control units on a battlefield. When two units engage in combat, the game shifts to a more action-oriented format, providing a dynamic gameplay experience.
A unique feature of the game is the occurrence of random earthquakes during gameplay. These seismic events can alter the terrain by blocking existing paths or creating new ones, adding an element of unpredictability and requiring players to adapt their strategies accordingly.
Originally released only in Japanese, Zoids: Mokushiroku was later re-released on January 13, 2009, for the Wii's Virtual Console in Japan. Additionally, an English fan translation was completed and released in 2014, making the game more accessible to non-Japanese speakers.
