Pokémon Yellow Version: Pikachu Special Edition[4] (ポケットモンスターピカチュウ Poketto Monsutā Pikachū?) is a video game in the Pokémon role-playing game series released in Japan, developed by Game Freak under the direction of Satoshi Tajiri.[5] Published by Nintendo for the Game Boy handheld system, the game is an enhanced version of Pokémon Red and Blue. It was released on September 12, 1998 in Japan, Australia and North America in 1999, and Europe in 2000. Along with the game , a special Pokémon-themed Game Boy Color yellow edition was released. Pokémon Yellow is loosely inspired by the anime.

In 2018, the year of the game's 20th anniversary in Japan, a pair of remakes of the game were released for the Nintendo Switch, titled Pokémon Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!.
