In 1980, Many Ataii 2600 players wanted the arcade game Pac-Man to be ported onto the Atari 2600. Atari did just that and developed and released the game in 1982 however due to the hardware limitations of the Atari 2600, the quality of Pac-Man was reduced compared to the Arcade game. These reductions include the screen resolution being alot lower, the amount of colors used on screen, the maze not being the same and having any curves and even the ghosts giving off a flicking effect or not even appearing on screen at all, which gave Pac-Man cheap deaths because the Atari 2600 couldn't handle the characters on the screen in real time with the hardware.
The reduced quality of the game wasn't enjoyed by many players not to enjoy the game and led to many to return their copy of the game. It was also said that this contributed the following year to the North American video game crash of 1983 because the development of Pac-Man from Atari caused an loss of consumer confidence in Atari.
