Monster Truck Wars was a video game released on the Game Boy and Game Gear in 1994. It was based on the t.v. show USHRA Monster Wars. It was made by Acclaim, who also made the Bigfoot 4x4x4 NES game.
A SNES and Genesis version were also being developed, but were cancelled for unknown reasons despite being featured at a major gaming expo in BETA stages. Few shots of the game have been found, with only the Game Boy/Game Gear manuals being one of the only sources for pictures. These versions of the game were to be based within stadium obstacle courses. It was a rear view shot of the truck with a odometer dashboard and the trucks name displayed at the bottom.
The Game Boy and Game Gear versions had a top over view of four trucks racing on outdoor obstacle courses with mud, jumps and cars. Trucks have to navigate through checkpoints for three laps, missing a checkpoint can cause you to fall behind in a race. You have to qualify for each race, running the first race with one truck, and the main four. Crushing cars at a certain time would allow for nitro boost or money incentives, allowing you to upgrade trucks. The Game Gear version had color to help differentiate the trucks. Vehicles can take damage during a race, with too much resulting in the race ending. Taurus was the fastest truck, but was susceptible to heavy damage early. Invader was the strongest however the slowest until modified. Grave Digger and Equalizer were fast but suspension caused them to bounce more. The most consistent trucks to pick were Carolina Crusher and Predator.
